Orthopaedics

A specialty most often found in outpatient clinics, orthopedic physical therapy diagnoses, manages and treats disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, as well as provides post-surgical rehabilitation. Orthopedic physical therapists are trained in the treatment of post-operative joints, acute sports injuries, arthritis, and amputations. Modalities employed in orthopedic physical therapy include joint mobilizations, strength training, hot and cold packs, and electrical stimulation.

In addition to post-operative treatment, patients who have suffered an injury or have a disease affecting the muscles, bones, ligaments or tendons benefit from assessment and treatment by an orthopedic physical therapist.
